OLD TIME BANJO FESTIVAL AT THE TIN PAN

With a touch of fiddle, hammered dulcimer, percussive dance and harmony singing!

The banjos will ring at the Tin Pan on Saturday, June 16th with the Old Time Banjo Festival. From the ancient sounds of Africa to the most contemporary banjo-centric songwriting, this event showcases a living, breathing tradition. Added to a variety of banjos are the fiddle, hammered dulcimer, step dancing, stellar vocals, collaborations and grand entertainment created by a group of friends who share a love of old time music and new sounds.

CATHY FINK & MARCY MARXER, the evening’s hosts, are double GRAMMY Award winners with a shelf of over 60 Washington Area Music Awards. Their their 45th recording, “GET UP AND DO RIGHT”, features duets on five-string banjo, cello banjo, ukulele , guitar and powerful vocals. Billboard Magazine called them “..as close to flawless folk/bluegrass as it gets.” Cathy teaches banjo online through TRUEFIRE.COM with over 700 lessons and together, the duo has influenced multiple generations of musicians while taking their cues from the masters such as Ola Belle Reed, Pete Seeger and Alice Gerrard.

KEN & BRAD KOLODNER, a dynamic father-son team, weave together a captivating soundscape on hammered dulcimer, banjo, fiddles and vocals pushing the boundaries of the American Old-Time tradition into uncharted territory. Regarded as one of the most influential hammered dulcimer players and Old-Time fiddlers in North America, Baltimore’s Ken Kolodner has joined forces with his son Brad Kolodner, a rising star in the clawhammer banjo world and host of The Brad Kolodner Show on bluegrasscountry.org.

Evie Ladin has always been surrounded by music – credit to her upbringing as daughter of an international folk dance teacher, and an old-time folk music devotee, she grew up thinking that playing music, dancing, singing with others was what people do. The polyrhythmic heat of Evie’s clawhammer banjo, resonant voice, real stories and rhythmic dance have been heard from A Prairie Home Companion to Celtic Connections, Lincoln Center to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass.
